FIU nickels and dimes their students too death with all of these fees. Around 80$ to your bill for parking, even though you do not use their facilities let alone have a car! If you want to pay your bills with a card online, they charge you around 60$ just for having that convenience. For some students, physically going on campus to pay is impossible (distance learning, out of state internships etc.) so its not a convenience, but a necessity to use online payment. The university boasts about their expanding academic programs and "prestige" however they cannot get the basics of administration right. Their is a lack of information consistency between departments, I find the overall university disorganized. Although customer service is decent and is good considering it's south Florida it can improve. I'm grateful for them giving me the opportunity to earn a degree, however if your looking for a university with excellent student relations, organization and quality customer service go somewhere else.

My review is on the university overall, which is not student friendly. The university charges an extra $100 if a student adds a class even before the tuition deadline and even during the normal drop/add period. This makes it very difficult for a student who needs flexibility in their schedule. Life situations change and therfore students ought to have that extra time to figure out their class schedule. Fee's for paying late is understandable but a fee for adding a class way before the semester even starts is abrasive. Secondly, my department(P.A.) adds a fee for distance learning (online class), again banking on the student who needs that flexibility in their life. The university prides itself on it's slogan 'worlds ahead' yet where are their programs on sustainability, humanities or even offering a masters in several basic subjects such as philosophy? There are many things this university does right, like employing talented professors, yet it can do more-not treating your students like a bank for starters. FIU please do better, and if your wondering how-start by asking your students.

- Academic Role Undergraduate
- Graduation Year 2013
- Department Communication, Journalism, And Related Programs.
Pros
Beautiful campus, some great professors, it's in MIami. Tons of clubs to join, a lot to do on campus if you live here.
Cons
The actual area FIU is in is kind of crappy- on the edge of Kendall and Sweetwater. You need a car or learn the buses. Financial Aid and Housing departments are incompetent. Miami is expensive.
Comments
Visit and take a class before you decide to come here. Some departments are better than others.
