Over my 3 years at Pomona College, I've become increasingly disenchanted with the school- much of my change of heart has had to do with the fact that Pomona's labor practices are really awful. For instance, I've gotten pretty close to the dining hall workers at Pomona, and most of them make less than $12/hr, even after working at the college for over 15 years. They only receive about 9 months of work a year, and have to pay over $330 for health insurance- this puts them well below the poverty line... Over a year ago, these same workers demanded their right to unionize but the administration has done nothing but delay and ignore their demands. I do not regret the relationships I have built here, but am truly disappointed that the College won't do the right think for its workers.
